Accessible Hotels in Vietnam: Check the Room and the Whole Route

An “accessible” label is a starting point for questions, not confirmation that a Vietnam hotel fits your stay. Describe what you need to do comfortably and independently, what equipment you use and any assistance you want. Different travellers need different arrangements.

Trace the complete route from the vehicle drop-off to reception, the assigned room and the places you will use each day. Ask whether it is step-free throughout, including thresholds and any alternative entrance. If a lift is involved, request the door opening and interior dimensions against your equipment, and ask about access if it is unavailable. Confirm the vehicle’s boarding arrangements separately: a suitable hotel entrance does not establish that the transfer works for you.

Discuss the actual room category rather than general hotel photographs. Request current images and relevant measurements of the bedroom and bathroom door openings, turning space and clearance beside the bed. Ask about door direction, shower entry, any bath edge, toilet position, grab rails and the location of controls. Specify the layout or side of access you need; the presence of a rail alone may not answer your question. Include communication or alarm arrangements if relevant to your stay.

Check any requested equipment by type, fit and confirmed provision, including who supplies it and whether it must be arranged in advance. Discuss sleeping arrangements for companions and any support you have agreed with them; do not assume staff provide personal assistance. Ask the property to confirm the essential room features and arrangements in writing for your dates, clarify what is confirmed versus merely requested, and recheck before departure. Choose according to your own priorities, not an assumed set of needs shared by everyone.
