Choosing a Ly Son beach: scenery and swimming need different plans
Ly Son rewards people who enjoy the coast even without entering the water. Dark rock, cliff scenery and small sandy stretches offer different experiences. Decide whether your priority is a shoreline photograph, a relaxed beach stop or swimming; one attractive location does not automatically serve all three purposes.

Start with the shore you want
For striking rock scenery, consider Hang Cau at the foot of Thoi Loi or the western shore around To Vo. Dao Be offers a different beach setting but requires a separate boat journey. Choose your island first: a beach visit that depends on another crossing needs more flexibility than a short stop on Dao Lon.
Read the water from a sensible distance
Ask locally which area, if any, is suitable and permitted for swimming that day, then observe waves and the route back out. A sandy entry can still lead to uneven rock or deeper water. Do not infer safety from clear water, other visitors or a quiet-looking patch between waves; lifeguard coverage is not assured.
Make a comfortable land plan
Bring shoes with grip for the approach and protection from sun, plus drinking water and a bag for belongings. Ask where you can rest and change rather than assuming beach facilities. For children or anyone uncertain in water, choose a viewing and rest stop that remains worthwhile without swimming, with a clear place to meet again.
Let the return shape your afternoon
On Dao Be, reconfirm the return meeting point before wandering away from the landing. On either island, move back when waves reach previously dry ground and follow barriers or local instructions. Carry rubbish away, avoid stepping on living reef and leave shells and stones in place. A shorter visit is a successful choice when conditions change.
